Student laptops

What is your school's policy regarding students bringing laptops to school? Are students allowed to bring them? If so, are they allowed to connect to the school's network (whether land-line or wireless)?

A student is beginning to voice opposition to not being allowed to use her laptop at school as well as not being able to connect to our school's (very limited) wireless Internet. Next semester I am going to be completing my internship for my MaEd - Instructional Technology, and I would like to make developing a laptop & wireless policy part of my internship, so any stores, suggestions, etc. from people with experience in this area would definitely be welcome.

One very valid point this student has made is that "CIPA requires schools and libraries using e-rate discounts to operate 'a technology protection measure with respect to any of its computers with Internet access that protects against access through such computers to visual depictions that are obscene, child pornography, or harmful to minors," and that such a technology protection measure be employed "during any use of such computers by minors.' "

Where do student laptops fit?
